Is All Heart Pine the Same? |
No. The only true and traditional Heart Pine is from the southern pine species family harvested exclusively in the southeastern United States. Today, ocote pine from the Central American rainforest and Russian larch is being sold as Heart Pine. Beware! Ask for a certificate of origin to ensure that you are getting Heart Pine.
Unfortunately, guidelines for the Heart Pine industry are lacking. Misinformation and poor quality seem to be the rule for some producers. Recognizing these problems, fifteen years ago we adopted the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau’s rules as our basis for grading and manufacture. This approach has enabled us to provide the industry with consistent and well manufactured Heart Pine flooring. |

What Quantity of Heart Pine Flooring Should I Order? |
| Generally, add 8% (waste factor) to the actual square footage measurement. Stringent trimming and defecting procedures during our manufacturing process ensures a greater value and product consistency to our customers. Beware of any Heart Pine producer with a waste factor exceeding this amount. |

Are Cracks Normal With Heart Pine Flooring? |
Yes. Wood flooring is a natural product and, therefore, is susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity even after manufacture. Proper acclimation of the flooring for 10 to 15 days with A/C or heat on will minimize the cracks before installation. In extreme dry conditions we suggest immediate installation of the wider widths.
After installation use a humidifier or a dehumidifier to maintain a constant humidity level. Wider width floors will have a greater tendency toward movement. |
